mcmillanm
Hi, Am thinking of getting a few angelfish that I've seen on trade me. They won't go with (or fit in) my other two tanks so is dependent on getting another tank past my husband LOL but am going to give it a go and getting excited. What I'm after is some advice on tank mates and stuff. The fish I'm looking at seem to be a smaller type of angel and the guy selling said they wouldn't get much bigger than 6cm from their caudal fin to their tail. They are 7 months old, is it normal for them to stay that small? I'm thinking of getting a 60-90L tank depending on what I find on Trade me for a reasonable price and was going to put them in with 5 Sterbai Corys and not sure what else? Maybe a couple of extra plates and swordtails that I have? Would ottos survive? Thanks
Li@m
With any angles you want a high tank 40cm+, 90L is a bit too small to fit in any more than a pair of angles. There are tank makers such as Greg who would make a 900x300x400 tank for around $70 if you want to go down that line.
MarkLB
the guy selling said they wouldn't get much bigger than 6cm from their caudal fin to their tail. How does this guy measure his fish? The caudal fin is the tail.
ryanjury
How did he get dwarf angels? I thought they all got to a good size unless stunted. A mate of mine had an angel and all sorts (guppies, tetras, swords, platties etc) and after a year he only had a huge angel left alive it ate eveything else. Angels are cichlids, they are aggressive, predatory and they get relatively big so be careful with how you stock them and make sure your tank is big enough. I have actually found them to be quite horrible to keep, I have only just got a few more with 10 albino angels growing out nicely.
mcmillanm
Re: caudal fin - meant to be head to caudal fin sorry, my mistake :gigl: . I did wonder about the size as I couldn't find any info on dwarfs online. At 7 months would they be almost fully grown and if they are in fact stunted would they be healthy? Questions, questions sorry... Also, am after a tank with built in filters and a stand, not just a tank thanks Liam. Has anyone had any experience with a hexagon shaped taller tank for a different look? Thanks for your thoughts everyone - I may need to reconsider the angel thing, these just looked pretty and a bit different to what I have...
