Adjusting PH level

Well maybe the water in Upper Hutt is too acetic to allow the drop. To be honest I haven't checked it in a while and as the angel was looking poorly, decided to check and it's way down (tested yellow). No plants in the tank and I don't over-feed. I just need something to get the level up until I can purchase some PH Up tomorrow.

Any suggestions?

That's it! :bounce:

I knew there was something that replaced PH Up that was a cheaper alternative. Thank you si :)

Baking soda is PH up :) That is all it is.. There is no real dosage rate just keep adding it gradually until the desired KH and PH levels are reached, for my africans I use 1 tps per 20L.

The others are right about the ingredients of pH up but angels are south american cichlids and dont mind slightly low pH so I dont think you should need to use it. I had some in a blackwater tank and they seemed very happy.

I wouldnt go chucking any chemicals or any other guff in your tank until you know what paramaters you have now and what paramaters you want to get to.

Just biffing stuff in your tank because it sounds like a good idea at the time will cause more problems in the long term.

If your fish are sick after a water change then check you supply water but Upper Hutt water is really good quality and should be fine for Angels.

I used to use baking soda to raise PH but it's been so long that I completely forgot about it as Upper Hutt water is good so PH is always about right.

I checked my other tanks and my other community tank was also very low so dosed that one too. Now I find that the first tank (with the angels) has brown water (whereas the other I dosed is fine). No algae anywhere in the angel tank (actually a community tank) as that tank never grows it, but the water is now brown - any suggestions on what it could be?

The fish seem ok, including the poorly angel but will know for sure at feeding time - damn bronze cories won't stop laying - I see a new batch of eggs in the tank now too :-?
