Filter Sponge - ideas where to buy

I am after some filter sponge material, like the stuff pictured. Corse.

Its not for any particulare brand, I would prefer to cut it to size myself actually.

ANY idea on where to look for such a thing, most LFS sell filter sponges for specific filters [unfortunately].

Also heard of someone finding similar at Para Rubber.

Yeah, might check Para rubber too. The pic is only an example of the texture.

Para sell something similar to that, not too expensive, about about 100mm thick IIRC. I've used it as the top layer of mechanical filtration in my sump and its good for catching the big chunky stuff (like uneaten pellets) but not much else. Main reason I use it is to break up the water flow before it hits the filter wool.

The foam is cheap enough, but I think because of the volumetric weight the shipping would be pricey. Easy enough to put some in a suitcase if you know someone coming over from the states though...

not all para seem to have it, glenfield doesnt, but mt roskill by hff have it. very good, i used them, before use i soaked it in boiling water but works well, i hae been using it for a year now, doesnt perish, doesnt permenently clog,good for rough mech filtration

just random question whats the difference with the ppi differences? 10ppi and 30ppi i know theres smaller holes but is more ppi the better?

+1 for Para Rubber at Mt Roskill but maybe ring first as last time I went in they had sold out.

Its not "better" but smaller holes will catch smaller particles of crap.
