rcon021
Came home today to find my male dead, beaten up by the female. Does anyone have a spare male?
jackp
i've been looking for marlieris too. there was someone selling a couple on trademe a while ago who said they may have more coming up as they thin out their tank. i ended up getting a group of dickfeldis from hff instead. still looking for a group of marlieris (though won't have anywhere to put them for a while). i'll let you know if i find anything
Mirio
Pretty sure there are some for sale at Animates Botany. On the back row of tanks, around the top maybe second from the top. Not too sure if they're sold as Marleri, but I was there on Wendsday and I'm pretty sure they're indeed Marleri. Not 100% sure, but 70%+ sure bro

ryanjury
What is the difference between ornate and marlieri please ? Do a google image search and you will see they are completely different looking fish, ornatus are harder to find ATM but I know a few people with them so hopefully they become more common.. jim r
I have googled them and they look very similar.
ryanjury
They are going to be similar being the same family guess that is why all the African critics hassle us for keeping fish that all look the same.. Ornatus are more yellow with more solid barring.. http://www.cichlidlovers.com/j-ornatus2.JPG Vs maileri http://www.reservestockcichlids.com/images/P/Marl.JPG
jackp
they do look similar, but the ornatus have lateral brown lines and yellow bellies, wheras the marlieris are more brown with white patches.
jim r
But I thought Ryanjury said they were completely different ?
ryanjury
They are going to be similar being the same family.... To me they are completely different, different colour, different patterning etc.. But to someone who doesn't keep africans they probably look the same, to someone who doesn't keep fish at all then all fish are the same, its all relative. Edit - spelling mistake. Will have a look this weekend. just talked to the guy on at animates on the phone. it sounds like they've got reganis (but he wasn't very sure what they were). if you go in there would you let me know what they are? jim r
Sorry for being a little ignorant on the subject of Africans, it would appear that my 6 are Marlieri, thank you guys.
jackp
how big is your tank? julies tend to be quite territorial. if the the tank isn't big enough they will kill each other as the pair up. make sure you have heaps of rocks/caves etc so they can have seperate territories. jim r
They are in a 550L tank, they have heaps of caves and they are as happy as Larry :slfg:
