AQUAMANX
HELLO ALL, I HAVE BEEN THINKING OF MAKING A BACKGROUND FOR MY 75 & 100 GAL. TANKS. BUT, I DONT UNDERSTAND WHERE TO PUT MY HEATER & INTAKE TUBE. NOR DO I UNDERSTAND HOW EVERYONE THINKS THEY WILL KEEP WATER FROM GETTING BEHIND THE BACK GROUND (WHICH SEEMS LIKE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE). PLUS I'M NOT SURE ON IF I SHOULD USE EPOXY PAINT OR POLYURATHANE OVER IT. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANXS IN ADVANCE, STEVE X. (AKA: AQUAMAN) P.S. ALSO UNSURE OF WHAT MATERIAL WOULD BE THE BEST CHOICE FOR THE BACKGROUND....

AQUAMANX
To all of you at the fish room, I'm sorry for the CAPS. I am always getting' people to tell me to stop shouting. Thanks for the greetings this is probablly the best forum I have ever been to. there seems to lots of people here with the same interests as me. I really like the DIY sections I am always building something. Now let me tell you about my set-ups. I have a 75 gal. community tank, (I use a Fluval 403 right now, but, I am putting a 404 on it soon.), w/ 2 bala's, 2 ID sharks, 2 opel gorami's, 2 pictus cats, 1 lace catfish, 3 blood parrots, 1 tiger pleco, 1 common pleco, 2 otto cats, the list goes on. Anyway I also have a 100 gal. in the process of been set-up. I just built a nice stand for it, & getting ready to build a hood. (& maybe a background hence the reason I posted the background post) Some of the fish I mentioned are going to live in the 100 gal. tank. I built a really nice stand for my 75 gal. & now everyone wants one. my girlfriend wants me to build an entertainment center & all kinds of things. Ok I got off the subject. anyway great to meet all of you. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me in the future. Thanx, Steve X. Aquaman
Caryl
Welcome Steve and thanks for the praise. Rob's idea of painting polystyrene and putting it behind the tank is a good one. One of our members used a thick sheet of polystyrene which she hollowed out caves and niches using a hot wire. She then siliconed gravel to it (a slow, laborious process) and put it inside the tank. It looked fantastic! A lot of work though and the finished sheet was very heavy. Do you have any photos of your stand?
Pegasus
Hi again Steve, Nice interesting post, you'll have heaps to tell us about there. There's a technical section if you feel like sharing some of those DIY's with us You possibly realised, but there are two sites here, (click on the twin fish on the header for the other one) where you'll find lots of other info on plants and such. That entertainment centre would sure look nice with three tanks set in it :) BTW: How did you find us, we are always keen to know what parts of the world our little forum (by world standards) reaches. Regards, Bill (Pegasus)
