Adrienne
Bad luck. I can't back up the following statement as I can not find the link on the internet but I seem to recall reading (a few years ago) that pure black fighters can be infertile. Can't tell you why or give any other information but maybe someone else can shed some light on this.
Adrienne
found this - I don't think its the article I am talking about but thought you might be interested http://bettysplendens.com/articles/page.imp?articleid=1040
Trilobite
Yeah, melano females are the infertile ones. they can produce eggs but they rupture during hatching so the fry die. I dont know if we have melano in nz :dunno: if we do, awesome  Does your pair have any red or blue on them? if they do then they probably arent melano. if they are melano however, then you would have to use a different female. Most breeders use a blue female...cant remember the reason for this though..something to do with iridescence Melano is recessive though so you would get multicolours in F1 and have to do some inbreeding to get your melanos back. Ill keep my fingers crossed for the 6th attempt

I know how depressing it is when you have the ultimate pair and you can not get them to spawn.

Trilobite
We don't have many things pure in NZ. This is true. What we get is often a surprise.
Joshlikesfish
This is true. What we get is often a surprise. I was at a fish store a few months back and saw what I was sure was a male in the "female fighter tank". Bought it, now I have a nice white body blue finned plakat male :sml2:
