D-Hawk
Hi I have got a kind of brown slime covering everything in my tank, it was all clean a couple of weeks ago. It also has what looks like an oil slick at the top. We got a new Aquis 1000 2 months ago. Can any one help? thanks
ryanjury
Is the tank relatively new? Oil slick on the surface should disappear if you disturb the surface with your filter or an airstone..
D-Hawk
yes the tank is new, the filter disturbs the surface and moves the water
GZ_Loach
You will need to do a water change if the oily film on the surface is pretty thick, also creating a current on the surface will stop it coming back. I'm guessing its brown algae, how often do u change the water? Do u have plants?
D-Hawk
I change the water every 2 weeks normaly but now I change every week. Yes I have plants. thanks
the-obstacle
brown algae is a natural part of cycling a new tank. Just scrape it off the walls and do frequent water changes (20% every 2-3 days or so) and it'll go away in a week or 2.
