bobo
I have a small 20l tank I'm going to be using in my work office. I'm going to plant it heavily, in a low/medium light environment. I was going through trade me and stumbled on this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 819068.htm (sorry if it breaks forum rules posting trademe links -if so, I'll remove). Essentially it is an 11W, T5, stand up lamp. Would this be suitable, instead of the standard 'lighting systems', that are out there? Cheers! alanmin4304
It would be OK on a small tank provided you could get tubes suitable for plant growth (if that was your aim)
A-town...
I had two similar lights running on a 6litre tank and the plants grew well.
bobo
Thanks for the replies. Is there any difference between using that lamp and similar power hood?
Zev
Providing the running gear for the lamp is 11w, no. The main thing to look out for is the colour temperature of the lamp and the depth of your tank.. AquaOne do lamps for their small tanks that are 300mm high and are 11w that are fine for growing plants such as java fern, some crypts and ambulia. This is about as low tech as you get - my daughter's AquaStart320 - severely neglected, overstocked, few water changes, lights don't go on some days, no ferts - which is probably why the crypts have not multiplied. Ambulia got pruned and replanted two days ago.
