henward
my royal, as soon as i get in front of teh tank or put food in, its in there, eating like a maniac. just wondering, how long do you think it takes for plecs to settle in and feed? while im there during daylight? im sure they are eating when im not there, but wonder how i know they are eating
phoenix44
Feed them during the day, and they will come out to eat in a while. All of my hypans eat like pigs when the lights are on. The dwarf panaques are the only shy ones, but they still eat.

henward
Gold nugget l018 is bravest, starting to test the tank and going on the substrate to forage for food. niveatus and cactus, i still dotn see them but im sure they eat when im not there lol dont wanna stunt them but gonna stop feeding lights out, and will feed during day light only to train them. is that a good idea? Or should i just feed at night too? Royal is a pig, eats when ever ther eis food. i think its starting to get the whiskers but not sure... has some sticking out now. but very short, may amount to anything. Babyruby
Give it a few weeks/months and your cactus will start coming out during the day to eat, I've had my cactus for at least 5 months and has just in the past 2 weeks started coming out during the day for food.... henward
officially, all plecos are feeding during day light hours, the niveatus is the most prolific - even compared to the royal. niveatus reacts almost with in 60 secondes... and grazes on the ground for food. cactus is dumber, it tends to smell the food and gets excited, but cant seem to find the food just over the dune of sand - while the niveatus is adventurious. the gold nuggest is more of a wood dweller. it will eat pellets that land on the wood, occasionally going onto the floor

henward
i think the large number of other fish in eh tank triggers a feeding frenzy type mechanism. i found i had a clown knife, docile, ate but not too much, slow to eat too. when in intro'd it to the rtg tank, with much uch more competition, it ate faster, more and was more voracious when feeding
