cees Posted January 13, 2005 Report Share Posted January 13, 2005 I've had an hair algae problem in my pond and to fix it I chucked in a tablet of Augmentin (Antibiotic) and that killed off the hair algae really well and it didn't harm my orandas one bit. Worth a try if you have either erythromycin or Augmentin in your medicine cabinet. For your small tank you should only use a 1/4 of a tablet. Others may disagree. Yes, I do disagree strongly. Erythromycin works on the blue-green algae and this is not algae but bacteria. Last resort though. I once got some from a friendly vet. It knocked back the whole tank and it was almost as starting all over. The green hair algae can not and should not be treated with antibiotics ...
