ghostknife
hi there i have a tank thats 120 x 46 x 60 high which filter would work better to keep the tank crystal clear it has the 2231 external at the moment and that is great but just got the aqua clear 500 and was wondering if it would do a better job
dreams
Personally I'd say the eheim 2231 external filter would be better for the job. If you want your water to be clearer, you could put in finer filter material or clean out the filter more often. I have a 2224 and usually clean it out once every 3-4 months Alternatively you could run them both though the aqua clear is an excellent filter, it will require more maintenance IMO
Luke*
the aquaclear500 is an awesome filter, i have one of these; it's easier to clean so i'd go with that. general principle with fish husbandry is if it's hard to do you don't do it.. like anything really.. i used to run mine on a discus tank and put a tall coarse sponge over the intake, known as a prefilter, sure needs cleaning often but it's easy and you don't have to clean the sponge inside the filter very often as the prefilter gets most of it
