Danni
Hi As the title suggests, I just yesterday dug in a pond... It is one of the plastic bases, just put in a large hole in the ground (took all day to dig, but was done before nightfall, whew) It is small-ish. I guess it is about 2m long, 1-1.5wide and 0.5m deep (will measure properly tomorrow). I was just wondering if anyone has some interesting/unusual suggestions of what I could put in it other than the usual goldfish or turtle (something that is not too expensive if possible). Also plants/foliage suggestions. (I haven't seen any frogs advertised anywhere lately or I may have put a frog in) Thanks Danni
waterlogged
you could try natives? ones that like ponds or slow flowing water. or go hunting tadpoles
Danni
By natives, you mean?? Also, it is illegal to take some natives right? Haha yeah...I live right next to a farm, and they have a huuuge pond, usually this time of year it's teeming with tadpoles, but this year there are NONE. (really worrying for the state of NZ frogs)
waterlogged
i dont think so. look on the native page on FNZAS and the ones that are threatened i wouldn't recommend but you just go out and catch them. don't think there are permits like with native reptiles
Stella
You don't need a permit to keep natives, but as Waterlogged says, make sure you understand the threat rankings. Do a search for Preacher's posts about his neat natives pond. He keeps finding all sorts of interesting things going on in there Note: natives AREN'T colourful or showy, but definitely different
Danni
OK, will look up those posts, thanks I wasn't necessarily looking for colourful or showy either....
