the-obstacle
Hi, I've just picked up a bunch of fresh water shrimp (thanks!) and I'm just wondering how many I should add to my 75L tank. It's a tropical tank but the shrimp are transitioning really well (5 in this morning, still going strong). They're fairly little at the moment so I guess I've got a couple of questions 1) how big will these guys get? 2) I assume they add ammonia to the system but is it a lot? Cheers
spoon
i wouldnt worry about bioload as im guessing you wont specifically be feeding them so bioload should be the same as they will eat detritus and left over fish food however keep an eye on them over the next few weeks as the higher temp could still take a toll and a dead shrimp will defiantly add to ammonia
Stella
I don't really know if the bioload question can be answered, but the do have a very high requirement for oxygen - remember warm water = less oxygen, so you want much lower stocking levels than you would expect. the-obstacle
ahh, ok, the oxygen thing makes sense... I'll see what I can do there. I'm going to leave the current batch in there for a week or 3 and keep the cold tank going to save a few just in case.
