gagaforfish
One of my neons has developed a weird white growth on its mouth. I'd take a picture, but no camera batteries. It is the same colour as its lips and is slightly bigger than the fish's eye.. What is it and how do I get rid of it/can I get rid of it? Stella
Google columnaris, but that is white and fluffy (I have no idea what colour a tetra's lips are! ) Alternatively, does it look firm and fleshy? Very slow growing? Could be a tumour. Fish tumours are viral and not malignant or harmful. I had a fish with one on it's lip. It dissappeared in time. Anyway, columnaris is more likely. Unless there is some weird tetra lip disease... I know nothing of tropicals.
ryanjury
I would say a fungus or cotton mouth or columnaris, although it sounds nasty but considering the potential things that could be wrong and the cost of a neon I would put it out of its misery, do a water change keep things in top shape and hope that the other fish don't get it.. gagaforfish
He looks healthy other than the 'thing' It is pretty round in shape. I put him in a quarantine tank. But I am looking at a couple of the other neons, and it looks like they could have the same thing, but not as pronounced. I did a water change yesterday. Should I throw the other neons in the same quarantine/ and What should I do to treat it?? I googled columnaris, but am still not entirely sure what the 'thing' is...
