katrina.hughes
Hi all, have noticed what looks like cataracts on one of my female fighters... shes in good health otherwise but have noticed the center of her corneas have clouded over. Is there any cure? Cheers Kat
BikBok
try some decent water changes. I've had it happen on my male fighter and several good water changes and some salt and he came right.

katrina.hughes
Awesome! Thanks guys, didn't know it was cureable - will give it a try and see how she goes :-)
SamH
I didn't think it was cureable either. Where did you get that fighter in your avatar? I assume it's yours, it looks a lot like one I used to have.
Adrienne
Nice isn't it. You need to keep your eyes out up here Sam.

pink_fish
Ditto all the above advice – I've had it happen a few times and it always clears up if you improve water quality.
ar-photography
There is also a Natural product Called MelaFix by API it is pretty much TeaTree oil its a 7 day treatment and works really well not to mention smells great
smidey
i think you will find it's not cataracts rather a fungus or grazing of the cornea or outer layer of the eye which is why a water bound treatment will fix it. a cataract is a clouding of the crystaline lens inside the eye. It's because they have a type of lung (LABYRINTH) that is affected by the treatment. The same goes for gourami.

I have used normal Melafix with bettas and have never had any problems (and Pondfix too, sometimes!). That said, try water changes first and avoid using any chemicals if at all possible. katrina.hughes
Bought my male HM from trademe, he's my pretty boy. lol. But interesting about the treatment 'bettafix' - havn't seen it on the shelves in the local pet store though....
the-obstacle
I spotted betafix in HFF a few weeks ago. strangely they don't keep it next to the melafix
pink_fish
May I say again – don't waste money on Bettafix – it's just a watered down version of Melafix which works fine with Bettas (I think Bettafix is a bit of a scam [if not even all the -fix stuff, anyway]). Try improving your water before adding any chemicals – up the water changes and that should improve matters.
