gagaforfish
I have a 30x30x60 tank, that I am dedicating to guppies (for now). The tank is probably not going to be planted, but will have a couple of those floating fake grass ball things for fry. I have no idea, what substrate to use. What colours do you think will make the guppies stand out? Also, Is that silica sand any good? Thanks!! ryanjury
I think that pink/yellow fluoro gravel that Phoenix44 loves is what you need to stick in your tank, and maybe some fluoro plants or fake plastic corals it would be awesome.. MarkLB
I have no idea, what substrate to use. What colours do you think will make the guppies stand out? I find dark substrates are better for showing the colour of fish.
DennisP
I find dark substrates are better for showing the colour of fish. True. I find sand looks nice, but for a planted tank it can be a pain. Also, if you are thinking of BNs or something don't bother with it. The poo will stand out like ... ... a lot. You can use dark gravel for planting area and then sand for a focus point in the middle or something. For fish... I don't like guppies. For plants... You'll have to let us know what style of planted tank you like. Nature style Iwugami (?) style Dutch biotope...? (and more probably) Not sure of those floating moss balls are here? Never seem them. Unless for food, I don't see how they're going to help the fry. Get some duckweed or Riccia, or moss or something for them. HTH
gagaforfish
I assume you mean 30cm wide and high, 60cm long? What budget are we talking here? Planted yes? Yes, those measurements. Budget... Not a lot? Planted, maybe, but it has to be low maintenance!! what were you thinking of doing? Uh, kind of unsure.. There were these fake-plant balls at Animates the other day........ http://web.tradekorea.com/upload_file2/ ... 586aeb.jpg Sort of like that... I quite like the idea of dark substrate. SamH
Personally I like to use cool daylight/6500K compact fluorescent lights (energy savers) to light my 60x30's, here's two CFL's one of mine just yesterday actually. Excuse the floating plants, I have no where to put them yet  Also using DIY CO2 with one of P44's diffusers and an aquaclear HOB. This tank is very low maintenance, only one fighter so nearly no water changes and plant trimming twice a month at the most.
