Brown algae

My 120litre tank has white silica sand on the bottom. About 3-4 days after the tank has been cleaned and the sand stirred up brown patches which I assume are a type of algae appear. Does anyone know why it is happening and what can be done about it please.

Diatoms. They actually grow best in water with a high silica content, but that's probably not relevant. It's common in just about all tanks.

Yes get yourself a group of otocinclus:) they are small and also small bioload and a crew of them is like cleaner and they will be munching all over your tank searching for algae and diatoms:) I recommend getting at least a group 3 or more prefer 6 so they can school together.
