BikBok
or do I need to go to the next size (75w). I have a spare 55W heater otherwise I'll need to buy another heater for my daughters new tank.
ryanjury
A 70L tank will probably only hold 55L of water anyway But guess it depends on how warm the area is as well? Just hook it all up and monitor it and see how it goes.
BikBok
Just wondering whether I should take advantage of animates special on elite/blue planet heaters... are these any good? Their next size is 100W .. I have a 55W aquaone heater but could always put in a 25W one as well. Would prefer a jager .. but budget not allowing it! I doubt it will be enough unless it's in a very warm room.
Manda
I have a heater that I think must be about a 50w in the 54L tank and its fine over summer but now I cant get it above 22 degrees so I am going to get a 100w as I just brought one for my other 54L and its working really well and doesnt even have a lid yet. Buying on TM as they are very cheap.
BikBok
thanks for replies.. might get one at the animates sale today .. see if i can find the extra to get a jager since they are 25% off.
smidey
get the 100w if you can, then there will be no worries. the bigger the better & in the future you may be able to use it elsewhere.
breakaway
100w at least. Better safe than sorry.
BikBok
Just got back from animates.. I got the 100W , a tank plus a bunch of supplies lol.
BikBok
opened the heater and the glass is broken. back to the store tomorrow. Hope it's not an indication of the brand quality (blue planet) I think i got the last 100w so might have to pay more for a jager anyway. don't like the look of the elite. How annoying. smidey
a jager would be the best choice, a 100w jager will be rated for a 150L tank or similar. The 150w is rated for 200 to 300L tank IIRC

smidey
get the biggest one you can affrod, it's never a problem having too much power. if you got a larger tank in the future you won't have to get a new heater as well
mcrudd
BikBok I buy the Aqua One heaters, have not had any problems with them yet, I also suggest a 100 watt one. I had my hexagon which was 60 litres, and in summer it was fine, but winter I had to upgrade to the 100 watt
BikBok
thanks melanie.. I started with aquaone heaters but have found the jager far superior. I think the A1 are probably better than the blue planet .. but I was budget minded today! One thing that is weird about the aquaone heaters , is that when new they grow a slime on the rubbery bits! My jagers have done it too. It goes away after awhile....

I have noticed that too, but like Ira said I think its just the rubber thing on all of them. When I had all those bristlenose babies in the tank, they would all group together around the rubbers of the heaters and suck them clean

I've only noticed it on the aquaone heaters.. they get a much thicker growth!
