henward
ok. looking for breeding cone for discus. saw jbl at the lfs, 30 bux. ok......i for some reason feel rather sick when i think of this money spent on the cone. does anyone know where to get cheaper ones? that does the job, it seems like a normal cone. or does anyone have a couple to give or sell cheap? OR beter yet can i just get a call teracota pot and turn it upside down? or will the hole on top of the pot gather badness?
ryanjury
I would just get a terracotta pot I am sure they fish won't be fussy, they will probably still breed on the side of the tank, the filter or the heater anyway..

diver21
yea pot should work (i dont breed discus but have seen this question before) believe you need to plug the hole though so the fry dont dissapear down there and get lost "if you make it idiot proof they will make a better idiot"
ryanjury
Just give it a go and see what happens
Bilbo
A tall pot will be fine or you can use a section of marley downpipe or a piece of slate. I just use a clay pot. Cost about $4 for a tall narrow one.

Lynnie
IMO when i was breeding discus I used bricks, slate and flower pots. I purchased a pair they never mated for me but on selling new owner used plastic cone within 1 week they had spawned on it. After that I purchased a cone too. Ones thats spawned on other used that one also. If you are going to go with breeding discus big time its not alot of money to out lay for the fussy breeders. IMO There are ones listed on a site at moment for $24. so exciting watching then develope. Good luck with you breeding very rewarding starting with new breedings.
