henward
My garage is set up, so at the back, there is a doorway, NO DOOR, and there is a back storage area. the garage is just tin, lined with coreflute lining. Today, david and I spent a good 5 hours insulating the fish room part with poly. using 50mm to 25mm depending on space available. ceiling was 50mm, thickest of all. i have not duct taped all the seams yet, but i have lined the tin door also wtih poly and duct taped fully. all windows are not fully shut. i put a make shift door barrier to the back room. and measured the difference. there is a 10 to 12 degreed difference from the back room - to the fish room area! back room was 13degrees at 7pm, and the fish room was 22ish. i reckon thats a succees but can someone tell me if that is a good difference. the room has not yet fuly heated up, cos i have been going in and out cleaning up. the tanks desired temps are 29 to 30. what should ambient temp be if insulation is effective? ryanjury
I would call the 10 degree increase in temp a good gain! That will save you heaps, it will be interesting to see what it stabilises at.. Do you have anything on the floor or just concrete?
henward
jsut concrete unfortu nately, i make too much of a mess to carpet it lol tested again, its colder now than 7pm, 4 degrees cooler outside, and the temp inside the garage is STILL the same. the back of the garage is 12 ish. ryanjury
Good work so it seems to be working for you, it will only be better when you have those little gaps and joins taped up and sealed I found it made a huge difference adding carpet and underlay to the floor.. Yeah its a pain because I am messy and always spill water, but with a fan dehumidifier and lifting it it actually dries really fast and to me the effort is worth the gains in warmth that I get.
