ryanjury
I hear what you're saying Kiwi but after being a member here for a year my experience tells me that threads like this just turn into an excuse for a mass stoning, where everyone will go a single member like a pack of rabid dogs, which is neither helpful or particularly kind. Unfortunately these threads do end up that way, but this is the thread for the person in question to actually put up his evidence and proove his methodology that brought him to his ID.. Imagine if you were the poor 15yr old who saved all your savings for months to buy some of these "rare" fish only to find out someone had done a dodgy with the ID or they were hybrids or actually maleri reds/golds (which they were purchased as)? Imagine this scenario, a TV store (who has apparently been selling TVs for the last 45yrs) gets an unlabeled 21" CRT TV in and decides it is a 42" plasma, we all know it isn't but to someone who doesn't know anything about TVs they may pay $1000 for this only to find out later it is only worth $100.. Obviously the person in question should front up and stand up for his product and show the comments and IDs given from the fish collectors, they may well be chirwa island I don't know they certainly don't match any reliable internet photo of them but I haven't seen the fish or pure Chirwa islands. Odds are they aren't.. They were purchased as maleris, Chirwa Is peacocks are known to be quite rare in the hobby even in countries that get direct lake imports. But stranger things have ended up here
firenzenz
A map of Lake Malawi The yellow dot which my very bad arrow ponits to is 'Chirwa Island.' The fish in question come from here and only here. That is how specific this the species is. As Ryan's has suggested if I was inexperienced but still so enthused by the thought of having such a rare fish and decided to pay 3 times what other fry that is meant to be ' of lower quality' would cost me to secure them, I would be disappointed that someone felt their right to deceive me was greater than my rights to a fair deal. alanmin4304
I have no problem with a discussion to identify a fish provided it is about the fish and not the marital state of each others parents or something similar. This discussion was getting personal and will not even be a discussion unless there is a reply.
