nightwlf
Hi, my name is Dan. I live in Christchurch. After spending some hours staring into my girlfriends' tank, and with some gentle persuasion, I now have a small 19L tank of my own which is currently aging some water. I have met a small handful of you before, at Totally Tanked meeting/barbeques, or at your house, or at Connected Café in New Brighton (whoo!) =P I am thinking of getting some glowlight tetras and a suckermouth for my tank. I will post some pictures of the tank at some point!

MarkLB
Hi Dan, welcome to the forum Every time I see a small tank with no fish I think 'Hmmm....a Siamese Fighter would look great in there'
Jennifer
Yay! Hi Dan, great to see that you are on here. Has Robyn persueded you to get any sparkling gourami yet? They are really cool and are small enough that they would find that tank a very comfrotabel abode. Let me know if you want any plants. nightwlf
Thanks everyone for the welcomes =) hmm the drawback to a fighter would be that I couldn't have more fish in the tank! and as a true noob I just want something simple to start with, and we'll see where it goes. Jen, I did look at some sparkling gourami pictures on google, the colours are so varied! Robyn tells me yours are silvery speckled blue, which I think I found some pictures of what I imagine them to look like. They are very pretty, but I think I have my heart set on tetras for the first time round. We'll see how I go!!
SamH
the drawback to a fighter would be that I couldn't have more fish in the tank! A common misconception, fighters can get on with other tank mates and do so often. The common problems are fast, nippy and aggressive tank mates, grouchy fighters and fish that look like fighters. Even a fancy short finned fighter would go nicely in that tank. Welcome and HTH
nightwlf
Thanks Sam, I've often wondered how they get on with other fish in the pet shops, but I guess that clears it up!
maoripho3nix
Hi and welcome Cool little tank, mine is a small one aswell, I currently have 3 Otocinclus for cleaning up algae, and 6 neon tetras going well in my tank. I was gonna go for sparkling gourami as suggested also by Jen, or some fancy guppies. Might I suggest guppies, easy to care for, and vibrant colours pleasing to the eye. Good luck with stocking the tank :bounce:

Lynnie
Welcome to the forums Dan. :bounce: :bounce: I reckon do a drive around all the fish shops in CHCH, and check out the net before you decide, as many great looking fish around. When your made up you mind then google them to see the requirments of the fish. Very exciting setting up any new tank. Looking forward to seeing what you decide on. BikBok
I look forward to see what fish you settle on. I keep a fighter with two platy and a small whiptail, with no problems. And in my other tank, a female fighter and a handful of guppys. I like guppys for starting out , pretty and interesting to watch while hardy at the same time.
