Adrienne
Do plecs normally fan when they are wedged in their caves or do they only do it when there are eggs? I'm talking pretty peckoltias (maccus?).
phoenix44
yours will be a bit young won't they? they will fan in preparation of eggs as well. but in the past fanning has only lead to a good outcome in my tanks.
Adrienne
I don't know how old they would be. I know that I saw at least one female today absolutely gravid with eggs. She's huge and I think the other male was near her. The male (or at least I think its a male from the planet catfish pictures) that is fanning I can't see into the piece of wood where he is. The area is pretty small though and he's stuffed himself in there very tightly. Time will tell I suppose. Last week it was the two pairs of bolivian rams that spawned in the same tank. I ended up siphoning out about 90% of the young and it was probably just as well as the fry I left with the parents have disappeared - probably eaten by the two lonely spinster rams in the tank
phoenix44
How big were yours when you got them from HFF. The ones I got from the same importer were only very young ones, no bigger than 4cm.
Adrienne
They were not that big but I would put them over 6cm now. Can't tell for sure unless I catch them and I'm not going to try to do that! The last couple of days they have been a lot easier to see in the tank as have been out with the lights on (still under the wood though).
