DEE
I'm am thinking that if i put his normal food in red food dye because i want to feed him cichlid gold, i want to change the color because i am convinced that he only wants it if it's white because he goes crazy even if i walk past the tank with a piece of paper. :-? just wondering if it would be ok for me to put red food dye and them feed him it???? :-? :-? David R
I can't see how it wouldn't be ok, but I think there's more to it than the colour. Try starving them for a week or so. You could also try stuffing what ever you feed them now with pellets.
henward
most fish react by smell or vibrations and movement, not colour i believe but if it works, thats fine i guess i tried to make my gold giant gourami redder by soaking its food with red dye, but it didnt work, but it ate it and no harm done. its normal food red dye. Ira
Try putting his a 3:1 mix of his old food and his new food in a container of water, stir it up for a little while so any juices and smells will be hopefully transferred to the new food. Then dump it in. Hopefully he'll start eating the new food an you can start increasing the ratio.
DEE
thanks for the help guys and David R ya i have tried starving him but he didn't eat for a month and a half and then i got new little fish for my tank but then thought that until they are bigger better not get him to hungry HE might decide to eat one of my new guys
David R
It may just be that he won't take the pellets. Some fish wont no matter what you try, others will. The bigger of my two dats won't touch pellets, even spits them out if I put them inside a shrimp, but the smaller one grew up on them. Morcs
They will eat when they are hungry. starve them for a month if needbe. The younger dats (and other fish) will take new food more readily, and thus encouraging the bigger and fussier ones. I had all mine crazy for cichlid gold and hikari carnivore sticks.
