Floater
What are optimum condition ranges for whip tail catfish? I really like the look of them and I'm thinking of getting one. Are they large waste producers like BN's and plecos?

Floater
which whiptail were you looking at? Was just looking at some pictures of them on the net. I've seen the ones you have as well. They all look pretty cool. I think I've seen a red one that took my fancy. Any idea of the scientific name of a red whiptail...? I probably couldn't be any more vague... what sort of price do these go for?
kiwiplymouth
The red whiptail is L010a Most, if not all whiptails that are available here are south american so prefer soft, slightly acidic water
Floater
The red whiptail is L010a That's the one. Man they look cool. I'm going to assume they'd cost a fair bit? Large waste producers (compared against BN)?

They are a lot less messy than BN's or plecs but that's probably because they are smaller. They aren't that expensive if you get them from a breeder. I got 10 last year for under $20 each. phoenix44
At the retail end they are about $54 - $60 each for the red whiptails. $34 or so for the royals and $30 for the lancelota. I too like the reds, but the lancelotas' earthy colouration is really really cool!
malevolentsparkle
Ive got a regal whiptail for around $30 and she's a decent size. not sure on the species though, think it's Sturisoma monopelte, but i can't find any decent pics of one to check. Awesome fish, she never hides, just chills out on a leaf or wood. eats everything too even flake!
