Brett1970
My fry are now a month old so today cleaned out the tank what a chore took me 2 hours but gave a me a chance to count the fry . Their are 60 fry 80 percent of them are males which surprised me hopefully they are as gorgeous as the father who is in my avatar. Will post some pics when they get a bit bigger the males are so much bigger than the females nearly twice the size at a month old i am presumming the bigger ones are the males

Brett1970
No the mum is a red and black hm should be some interesting colours
nycnlo
bigger ones will be mixed sexes... too hard to tell what is what at this stage as they grow at differnt rates hence why different growout tanks are reccomended as some will stay small and take longer to grow... once seperated they will get more food and therefore grow faster etc good work sounds like all is going well
Brett1970
Thanks everone my first successful spawn since i started back breeding fighters makes up for losing two males and a female hm in 2 days . Looking for some Nice Hm Males and females also thinking of trying some Cts . Have some good grow out tanks so might move the males in another month give the smaller fry a chance to grow. I believe some of them are stunted due to my neglect  . I'm leaving them in a tank with lots of plants and algae and feeding crushed flake daily. In Thailand, they just move them into outdoor ponds, survival of the fittest. I'd rather have a few good ones than have to cull a whole lot. JMPO though. Scottie841
We just have them in a 20L then once the fry are about a month old we pour the tank in to our 120L Jewul and they stay there till they start fighting then the once causing problems get put in to bottles in a smaller tank. I should do more water changes but I am too busy and I try to get it done once a week. It is a high current tank so does mean that only the strong survive and we get fish with bigger bodies but smaller tails (is the standard filter and a 2213)
Brett1970
My fry are very spoilt they have a 60x 30x 60 tank and are fed twice daily with bs and mw they love the brine shrimp but only feed them that at night time as have been told if i feed to much they will get dropsy so am very careful. Lucky for me have plenty of time on my hands after my operation .

nycnlo
brine shrimp/dropsy? thats a new one to me lol.. generally its water conditons / sometimes can happen with anatanboids... iv had trouble with some frozen blood worms... had a particular batch that nearly wiped out all my stock thru different tanks .. so now dont feed fighters them and havent had any cases since
Brett1970
Oh me probably got my info wrong about the brine shrimp then maybe the blood worms i had killed my other 3 fighters hmm might stay away from them now. But what do you use for conditioning if you cant use bloodworms
nycnlo
yeah i think as long as the conditioning process doesnt last too long or not constantly feeding them ul be okay i havent put any to spawn recently. have been waiting for the last spawn to grow a little.. have a couple picked out to continue on breeding with prob sell the rest id say as dont really want to keep 30 or so adult halfmons going to start conditioning again soon
Brett1970
I am the same i am waiting to get some decent Cts and wait and see how my Hm/Plakat spawn turns out . Does anyone have any suggestions how to get Bbs out of the bottle with out getting shells even when i turn of the pump and leave the light on for 10 mins i still get some shells when feeding out the brine shrimp. I kind of cheated got a good recipe and design of the internet saves me having to use a airstone .

Yeah use Decap brineshrimp, no shells or mess and just feed from the bag and no chance of the fish eating my shells. And the fry/parents love it. Worked for my fighters when I bred them. That's my 5cents.

SamH
Macro, high ISO/sports mode, only lighting directly above from the tank, flash if you want to show platinum or metallic colours. HTH
