Lighting?

I have a 60x30x30 tank i purchased, It has no light, I am trying to grow hair grass, what lighting do I need, I looked at t5's but don't have $200 odd to spare right now, what can I get to keep the plants I have alive at least, and look at a t5 later next month. So far, I have got some clay balls to put in the substrate, and some Flourish Excell to use when they start growing. I was thinking of putting a beta in the tank later on, will a t5 affect him?

I have a 60x30x30 tank with 2x 6500k T8 tubes. If I could do it again I'd use 6500k energy savers in the lamps you get from Mitre10 or Bunnings, two should be enough.

I grew hairgrass (possibly the stuff you have) under 1x 6500k energy saver bulb in regular sand.

Good luck!

Have you got a pic, or a link of what you got from mitre 10?

Yeah, $10 ea for the lights. $5 ea for the screw in energy savers. Turns out the lights were bayonet so I had to get different bulbs. $7 ea for those.

I reckon you'd only need two for a 60x30 and you'd be able to grow most plants. You could get away with one maybe in a low tech setup.

I hope you have a way to mount them, I will clip mine on but the neck for the light isn't too strong so it sags a bit, I need to secure it with fishing line or similar. If it wasn't going to be a rimless tank then I'd take them apart and mount them in a hood.

Good luck

Well its in the garage, so i can probably make a bracket that screws to the wall, and mount them on that. i also need to make a stand for the tank, do you reckon I need to put polystyrene down under it? ie between the tank and the ply it will be sitting on?
