axolotl-danio
We bought 4 tadpoles that are either southern or green and gold bell frogs. two are in out pond and seem to be doing fine and the other two are in a 30 litre aquarium/Paludarium. Is the tank going to be large enough for 2 adults 40 x 25.6 x 28 CM? Will the pond ones stay near the pond as frogs? What is the best food for the frogs? Any tips for the aquarium/Paludarium? Pic of tank: The water level will be lowered when they metamorph so hopefully the plants don't die.
alanmin4304
Green and golds will not survive outside other than the top of the North Island.
N1CK
The frogs are actually quite big as adults, so you might want a bit bigger tank The best food for frogs is anything live that moves. flies, moths, crickets, other bug, ect Once they do morph, its best to have about 2/3 land to 1/3 water, also try to keep it well ventilated, and make sure there are no gaps in the lid at all, when they are little you would be surprised what they can fit though
SamH
Watch those gaps at the back. We have the exact same tank, bought it for tadpoles. Didn't cover up those holes once and we had 3 frogs on the carpet. They all lived but they might not have if the cat got them.
axolotl-danio
Green and golds will not survive outside other than the top of the North Island. Why is that? Fingers crossed their southern bells. They were sold in Nelson so would there be a fairly good chance they are southern bells? Watch those gaps at the back. Yes I have taped over them.
alanmin4304
Ask the shop if they were locally sourced and if they were wild caught they will not be green and golds. Southern bells are allover NZ. green and golds like it warmer and arein the top half of ther North Island. Whistlers prefer it cooler and are everywhere the green and golds are not. axolotl-danio
The two inside ones have turned into frogs and I have moved them into a 4ft 150 litre aquarium outside with plants and wood etc.
