Zdoda
Hi all, This algae i have had for some time curious as to what it is, i don't mind it so much on the rocks but it seems to cover the glass constantly which isn't very pleasant, i scrub it off every week, i do 2 water changes in the tank weekly, feed the fish once a day. I do however have T5 2 x 24 watt, tank is 76cm L x 40 cm W x 46cm H. Use Co2 DiY and add Seachem Flourish Supplement Once a week. So presuming it isn't a lack of WC or food, but more Light and supplements that's making this Algae grow like mad on my tank? I am clearing this tank out once the fish have all been sold (buy my fishes, have a post in trade ) so not a major issue if this isn't resolved but for future reference would be good to know what i might have done wrong? using the tank to just keep Africans cichlid fry. Aquila
I used a SAE to fix the problem and it did a great job. There are still a few sprouts trying to grow on the edges of leaves but they never get a chance to get bigger/visible. Just make sure you get a TRUE sae as there are FALSE ones that aren't as good at eating it and they grow bigger and can be slightly agro. There are a few sites that state the diffs, but PM if you are still unsure and need help
smidey
if you go with the Seachem flourish excell dose as directed & you will be fine. there are some theories that say half the dose or double it, i dosed as directed & it was gone quite quickly & the fish were fine. its flourish excell that works not the standard flourish. Zdoda
Cool cheers Aquilam, will take up your offer at some stage as that tank is being cleared and i am sure this isn't the last of this algae Shot smidey - will do, i am generally to worried about killing my fish to dare exceed the recommendations, even when using the Supplement Flourish i use less than the amt stated. Abit off topic, but has anyone used the Purigen product, people are saying it keeps there water crystal clear? Would that also help in the controlling of algae since it helps remove ammonia, nitrites and nitrates which feed algae i think (not 100% sure of that please correct me if i am wrong)

Insect Direct
i see this in one of my turtle tanks but never the other :-? pretty cool feature to any tank 8) would just doing more water changes on that tank get rid of it? id like to find the cause rather than dose for an unballance
smidey
id like to find the cause rather than dose for an unballance i believe it gets introduced rather than grows from nothing. i got it on some plants i bought from my lfs when i was a newbie & didn't know what it was & it took over my tank. when i dosed flourish excell it was killed & never returned & that was around 3 years ago. regular algae comes & goes

Because as much as i don't mind it on the rock's it does give a nice natural look, it really is a pain scrubbing the heck out of my filters and glass to remove it. smidey
its not a bad ploy by LFS to spread it around form their perspective as i spent around $60 on other products to try to get rid of it before F. excell was recommended to me on here. if every plant they sell has a little of it on it then the products will move quickly :-? Aquila
The Flourish Excell works well but can be expensive if you're tank is med-large. To get the best benefit from it, squirt the stuff directly onto the algae as you are dosing and it will 'burn' it off within a day or 2...
