Zayne
i have a 2meter fish tank and a 1.5m stand what can i do?
phoenix44
get a 2m stand or a 1.5m tank. I have also seen people use a very strong piece of wood to rest the larger tank on.
Morcs
Or just have the stand central and use some concrete blocks for either end.
ryanjury
If the 1.5m stand is sturdy enough then you could use a piece of 18mm ply the same dimensions as the base of the tank on top of it to extend it, there would only be 25cm sticking out on each end. David R
Ryan even 18mm ply is quite flexible, in comparison to glass which has virtually zero bending before it cracks. That ply will do almost nothing to support the ends of the tank, there is really only one thing to do; stop being a scrooge and buy a proper stand for the tank. A 2m tank holds a lot of water and will do a lot of damage if it breaks and ends up on your floor, not to mention the cost of the fish, the equipment and the tank itself. Duncan7
Shame you are so far from hamilton, you could buy the stand off this person viewtopic.php?f=11&t=42415 and ill have the rest of the gear as i would be looking to build my own stand

Duncan7
ooooo new tank Duncan? what this time? Nothing yet, been 'thinking' about that 2m one for sale in te aroha, but my circumstances would be similar to yours... ie parther leaving if i got it... Really want to set up a new one about the same size, kinda having a go at building a cabinet for the 4x2x2 and will see how it goes and if its worth doing the same for a new bigger tank. Dunno, think that one for sale is about 4 or 5 years old so should be good, but id like a sumped one tho, guess the fx5 would be ample. So either have to get it drilled and have a sump made, which wouldnt be that much cheaper than a new tank if im going to build my own stand... and id have a brand new tank... Guess all the extra bits for a new tank would add up, probably need a bigger sump and return pump... maybe more lights. So the appeal in the second hand one is that it is the size i want, even if it isnt drilled fir a sump/overflow, cheaper and all ready to go. However i dont need a bigger tank right now, and new is always nice for a tank that size, so yeah just tossing up on what to do. A four week old child and one income tend to inhibit the fish expansion... so maybe now isnt the time.
smidey
if i wanted to do that i would buy some 50x25x2.5 Aluminium rectangular hollow section (RHS), put 4 rows on there edge on top of the stand at the same length of the tank & then fit a layer of ply for the poly & tank to sit on. I would then get timber or ply & fit to front & end of the new platform to tidy it up. I don't think it will look right but that may not be that important. Ali is generally cheap in comparison to other materials. Ullrich RHS http://ullrich.co.nz/rectangular_tube1.php
