JazzyJeff
:bounce: I have my first bunch of bristle babies! My boss went to Australia a couple of weeks back and as a gift got me a Bristlenose Breeding Log. I was quite chuffed that they got me a gift and promptly put it in my tank... after seeing nothing but the tail end of my large BN sticking out of it for the past week or so, I saw that he finally came out to eat this morning - I got me little torch out and took a peek. Inside was a bunch of tiny miniature BN's - soooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute! These are my first babies. After seeing FireFish's pics I am hoping the GBA's will be next! Her pics are amazing! I'm off to Aussie myself at the end of the week so will keep my eyes peeled for another log for the goldies. Pity I am going to miss the little bubba's coming out - hope there are still some there when I get home! Can anyone tell me - Do I need to provide them with any special food? At what stage will they come out foraging for food? Thanks in advance

SamH
Congrats! I'm assuming you've taken all the other fish out of the tank except the parents? My BN's have only spawned for the third time but removing other fish that would otherwise eat the young has greatly improved survival rates. Once they've eaten up here yolk sacks (or even a bit before) you can add a not-too-thick slice of cucumber attached to a plant weight. Even a couple of algae wafers too. The idea is to have only enough cucumber for them, but replace it often. They cloud the water if left in too long. HTH and good luck! Caryl
I find other fish do not eat BN fry as often as they do other types of fish. Perhaps the spines put them off :-? No special food needed. The fry will live off their egg sacs for a few days then will be off to see the world, happily nibbling on everything as they go. SamH
Really Caryl? When I had my first batch, I saw a harlequin eat one right in front of me, I made it spit it out but it died later I think. I only got 10-15 from my first 2 spawns, many more from this one though. Caryl
Perhaps it is because my aquarium has a lot of driftwood in it with tight hidey holes and is also heavily planted. I have no idea where the BNs are laying and the only way I know they have spawned again is when I see little fry munching their way along a log or leaf. I guess a lot are being eaten or I would be over-run with them by now.

JazzyJeff
I asked it very nicely... FUNNY! Unfortunately, moving all other fish isn't an option - there is a lot of drift wood and plants tho. I am off on holiday for a couple of weeks so the little guys are gunna have to fend for themselves, :-? hopefully when I return in 2 weeks there will be some left. If not I will reconsider where which tank I have the log & BN family in.
