Guest
Theres not many people breeding them down here. Now I've got a bigger setup I'm breeding them again.
Scottie841
You may find it hard to find a good breeder. Most have stopped breeding them because people dont want to pay for good fish. People keep offering $5 for a nice CT, plakat or delta
Guest
Yeah, plus it takes up quite a bit of space, time, and money too house and feed them. An average CT, Delta, PK or HM should get around $15 - $20 each unless listed on trade me. I think theres only me, bronze-dragon, Scottie841 and maybe Darkfur who breeds them in Wellington. AquaVitamins
Oh ok cool. I can see what you mean about the lack of demand for paying $15-$20 a fish, Thanks for telling me though
bronze-dragon
me and scottie arent really 2 seperate betta breeders tho. but most people dont realise that VT's arent quiet as rare and interesting as a CT or DT or HM. so when they see VT's in CHCH selling for a couple a bucks, then they just assume that all the rest of the bettas will sell for that price, and get grumpy and refuse to buy a well bred fish of another tail type that is being sold for anything more than they saw the VT going for. Brett1970
i have also started breeding but it will be a few months until i have everything set up
nycnlo
yeah there defintly seems a lack in demand at the moment for decent fish its quite a shame.. its made me re consider finishing my fish room was quite a shame to see DLUMS on trademe struggle to sell pairs of halfmoons for $20. i dont mind paying decent money for well bred fish .. and def dont expect to pay a mere $2 hahaa
Guest
Yeah I got a few fish of Dums and they were really great fish. He ended up selling CT pairs for $5 or a HM girl for $5. . It seems to go through stages where everyone wants Fighters and then no one wants them so everyone stops breeding them.
nycnlo
hmmm yeah im just divertisifying (sp) breeding more than just fighters at moment... dont really know how long il keep breeding fighters to be honest.. il let the next few months decide for me il see how my future spawns go etc
Guest
Fighters are good fun to breed as you never know what colours you'll get but I also have different types of fish I breed as well like Panda Corys, BNs, Platys, Apisto's etc.
AquaVitamins
Atm Im having a go at breeding some Bronze Corys. Does anyone know what Hutt pets buys them for?
Guest
They usually buy fish for about 1/3 - 1/2 of what they sell them for depending on how rare the fish is and how many they have in stock.
AquaVitamins
Well how much do they retail them for? $14? $12?
Guest
I don't know. I think there quite cheap, probably $7-$8. I know there not $12-$14 as Pandas, Sterbei, Juliis and all the rarer ones are around $14- $
