BikBok
fast him for a day then give him a chopped pea (deshelled) ! My betta would keep eating too if I let him.
Guest
I always keep my fighters fat. That might be a bit too fat but all mine look like that after a few bloodworms but most people say they only like their fighters to have a little bump on them otherwise they die from being too fat :-? . I wouldn't worry too much about him. It's good to keep them fairly fat as it's not as hard to condition them when you want to breed them but thats just my opinion
AquaVitamins
ok cool ill try it. Is this common ?
nycnlo
common from over feeding if you feed him too much hel get bloat ... not a good thing just cut back a little of feeding as he can develop gill problems if he stays too big for too long
AquaVitamins
Heya I looked at him this morning, and he looks like he did in the 1st photo. So im guessing its bloat?
phoenix44
not just yet, it isn't. dont feed him at all. fighters are famous for being total pigs!
nycnlo
yup give him a diet for a while... try feed him a cooked pea after 24hours tro tie the hunger over i just fed all my fighters some good old peas last nite.. only one of them decided he was too good for them! others seemed to love them i try give them occ to keep their digestive system all good
twinkles
it can cause problems with their swimbladders too, i bought a really fat doubletail boy with a tummy like that and its taken weeks of dieting for him to come right, he can finally swim down now instead of being stuck to the surface Apparently the doubletails are more prone to that though, because they have shorter bodies. Guest
I've always kept my fighters fat and have never had problems :-?
twinkles
probably depends on the fish too, some might be more prone to it, like the doubletails. I dropped way too many bloodworms in the community tank once, and the female bettas in there ate most of them before i could fish them out, then looked horribly bloated and uncomfortable, sat in the corner looking sad all day. I was really worried but i just waited two days without feeding them and they were fine.
phoenix44
All my male fighters to date have died of being pigs, eating more than they need, and then getting dropsy (minus the one that jumped).
nycnlo
yeh they not ment to be fat...feeding less more oftten is better i used to overfeed my fighters..prob stil do considering lol

SamH
Your fish looks like a VT/Veiltail.
AquaVitamins
Oh cool thanks, i wondering what he was, the guy @ the pet store said he a bit of crown tail in him?>>
SamH
He might have a bit of crowning but CT wouldn't be the correct term. See if you can get some shots of him flaring where you can see his whole tail... Betta's need far less food than other fish like Danios and Tetras because they spend alot of their time resting and staying still where as Danios would use that time swimming around and burning up energy. It's much easier to control the amount you feed them when they're by themselves but if they're with other fish, don't let them get too much food. AquaVitamins
Well yea now it should be alright because i have him in a separate tank. but before he would chase every else away from the food lol I might try that pen trick to get him to flare. Ill post some picture tomorrow, because i have a ball tonight.
nycnlo
fin type... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm without seeing him flare im undecided i can see some slight crowning... but its a obsquered pik id go possibly part ct/crowntail more than prob vt x ct ?
