lambo
Hi, i recently had a spawn of 20 black lyretail mollies but only 4 made it past infancy. Unfortunately they have taken to attacking my blue turq discus' and generally making a right nuisance of themselves. My query is this, is this normal behavour or have I got an anomoly on my hands? and if so, should I find a new home for them? darkfur
sounds weird they have a rep for being gentle, mine certainly are, I can trust them with any fry
ryanjury
Mollies are known for their ability to eat algae etc and they often go around the tank pecking at everything.. I wonder if your fish are thinking the discus are something to try and eat off?
lambo
That was the closest idea i came up with as well but i discarded it as the discus are still young and wouldn't be producing milk yet. Probably have to re-home them as the discus are starting to stress out a bit. ( Anyone want 3 pure black lyretail mollies and 1 black and gold molly? )
darkfur
quite bizarre - the most vicious thing my mollies ever do is kiss my fingers if I am rearranging stuff in their tank
Dixon1990
Are the discus the only fish they're attacking?
lambo
Yeah, just the discus. Other than that, they are normal.
Caryl
I suspect they like the large flat surfaces of the discus. They will be nibbling on the slime coat. Plecs often do that to discus too
darkfur
they're probably looking for algae and might not even realise the discus are fishies. Mollies aren't all that smart
Dixon1990
I'd offer them a good home, but for some reason i can never keep mollies alive:(
darkfur
mollies are weird like that, most people find them easy but a few just can't keep them I have a dash of aquarium salt in my tank. That said, traceytrout has a bajillion mollies without a skerrick of salt
