Navarre
catfish are not my thing I have them in my tank to add a certain ...omph...but have not tried breeding them for years. I have "normal" BNs where male has bristles and female mostly clean shaven but I also have a "pair" of GBA and both have Bristles. One has more and in a 'doubleish" row with many more bifications. The GBA have not produced where the "common" ones have. So,,,,, Do female GBA have Bristles? Thanks in advance Navarre
kiwiplymouth
I have never seen a female GBA with bristles yet. I am happy to be proven wrong.
SamH
I believe that GBA's are just Golden Bristlenoses, a variation of the regular Bristlenose. I only own the regular brown type so I can't say for sure but I have a library book that shows them as the same species, just with different colouration. So as far as my knowledge goes, big Bristles = Male, little/no Bristles = Female. Hope that helps
phoenix44
well. you do get the odd hairy female (sorry french women). not full on bristles, but more like stubble.
MarkLB
I'm breeding GBAs at the moment and most of my females have some very short stubble but nothing like the male has.
kiwiplymouth
Perhaps I should amend my statement. Females may have one row of fine stubble across the top lip but nothing like other Ancistrus females. I have 2 breeding pair of GBA and 1 Breeding pair of red eye GBA, all the females have no facial hair at all
