northland chic
Hi everyone, I have been breeding albino bristlenose for a few months now and have really enjoyed it. I love them, nothing more exciting than knowing Mr Bristles is fanning some eggs. I have decided I would like to try another ancistrus or pleco. I have 4ft and 7ft planted community tanks with driftwood. I really love the king tiger and queen arabrasque but am thinking these may be jumping in the deep end! Also the queens are quite expensive, I have never seen the other in a shop but I have seen others photos and fell in love. So does anyone have any suggestions that would be a step up from the bristlenose? I will be putting them in the 4ft with my albino bristles, will this be alright or could there be conflict? I would make sure to add lots of caves to keep everyone happy. I could put them in the 7ft but then if they breed I wouldn't really get to see and monitor it. We don't really see much up here so I have no clue. It would be great to hear your ideas and names of some. Thanks NC
VinsonMassif
I say anything you can afford, and can confirm is an actual pair. Not many people have bred other plecos. But there are enough to call on if they put their hands up, or you contact them through the year book,
phoenix44
clown plecos. get a group and let them form natural groups and you are on your way. L067's are another option. most other plecos need a long time to mature.
Simian
Whips are pretty simple to breed as a second step after ancistrus, raising the fry is the tricky part, they are a fraction of the price of the fancier plecs too. Get a nice group of royals, there are farowellas on the lists atm too. If you want to try red whips I can sell you a mob of 5 juvies to grow out for a good price, grow them out and sell off the extras once you get a pair sorted. Clowns panaque maccusare cool and relatively easy to breed also, but the hard part is finding females, I have two males who need a girlfriend at the moment, but haven't seen any for ages. Good on you for extending your horizons the pleco way and let us know what you decide :bounce:
