BikBok
Thought i better put this on my own thread rather than hijack the finrot one... I've had this guppy boy for 6 weeks now and he came to us with a tatty and torn tail. The tear seems to be healing very slowly but the tail is still tatty. I don't think it is fin rot but what do you think? Would acriflavine dips help with this? I have given him a few salt dips and kept the water clean. He hasn't grown much during this time either, the female we got with him has doubled in size. The tear was just above the yellow bit in his tail..didn't go all the way to the base, but almost. phoenix44
its just tatty. leave him be and he will be fine. watch out for other fish that may eat his fins.
BikBok
thanks. so no special attention required? I haven't noticed the other fish nipping him , perhaps the female might if she gets annoyed . she's a feisty one . But his tail was torn before he came to us. I guess he's just a small strain too , my 9 week old tuxedo girl is a big as him in body!
LYNDYLOO
I would just keep the Water Clean and it will heal by itself. I have some Smallish boys like that too, some of my Females are at least Double in size.
sewelld
I've got a guppy boy with a ragged tail as well. Seems happy enough. His ragged tail was caused by a fellow male guppy who was a bully who has since died, now the tail is (very) slowly recovering.... AquaVitamins
It could be fin rot. If it is you need to do some water changes and give them meds from lps.
BikBok
It could be fin rot. If it is you need to do some water changes and give them meds from lps. his tail has been like this for 6 weeks and he's had plenty of water changes and some salt water and acriflavine dips. The tear HAS improved but the tail is still tatty. If you really think it is finrot I can put him in a hospital tank and treat with furan but I thought finrot would be more aggressive? I've got two platy in my hospital tank at the moment.. just quarantining them because they're new. I don't really want to take them out just yet. SO unless there's a strong consensus that my guppy has finrot, I'll leave him in the main tank and keep up the water changes.
AquaVitamins
 I have some guppies atm which im currently treating for fin rot and they looked like your guppy. But its all a work in progress atm (moving the tetras out and getting some more guppies) I would'nt do anything to rash, im thinking it should come right on its own. But just make sure that there is no fin nipping and clean water. But if in doubt just throw it in with the platys and medicate Good luck
