cichlid7
Would dark 6-8mm rounded gravel be ok in a tank with a silver aro ive heard about aro's eating the gravel and dying just don't want that to happen. thanks
livingart
gravel can be a problem in their tank especially if they are picking food off the bottom they seem pretty good at sieving it through their gills etc but i run a coarse sand so if any is ingested it can be passed through the gut
cichlid7
how do you wash sand before putting it in the tank?
livingart
same as washing gravel but it takes longer
David R
My green is very delicate and graceful when it comes to picking food off the bottom, the big dat on the other hand just sucks it in along with a big mouthful of sand! If you feed floating pellets you should be fine, I've heard of bichirs eating gravel but not aros.

livingart
i use a coarse river sand, probably .5 - 2mm they chase their food into the sand
David R
I have mine on fine grit, no problems.
cichlid7
I do 1\2 a 10L Bucket at a time. Once it runs clear, put it into the tank. Would a bigger scale of that work eg: 200L plastic drum 3/4 full of sand/grit hose in it on the bottom
