megs27
How do you tell if you have a male or female pleco? I'm thinking of getting a mate for my lepoard pleco (photo of the month) but don't know what sex he/she is could someone tell me
phoenix44
hi megs, I think your red spot pleco is too young (and small) to breed. you however have to vent sex them. AKA we need lots of very good pics of his / her belly - but its pretty hard sexing small fish (bearing in mind they can get to about 50 cm or more). HTH :bounce:
megs27
Is it a red spot pleco??? was told it was a lepoard pleco or are they one and the same. It's getting up for the 12 - 14cm mark so do they need to be fully grown to reproduce, I would love to post more pics but the photobucket website either isn't runing properly or my computer or I can't work it. I read all the instructions on this website but when it came to up load photos it didn't give me that choice. How come some members can post pics on this forum is there some kind of gold membership or something? How can I be eligible to do it to. phoenix44
everyone can post pics. resize them to 640x480 and then upload them, or just let photobucket resize it for you. then once its up there, click on the "img" code and paste it here, and presto your pic is here. like this: leopard is just another one of those common names with the fish. other names include gibby, red spot plec, sail fin plec. that's why some people like using the L number if the fish has one assigned, cause there can only be one L number per fish. sharn
I thought I read on planet catfish that they had to be close, if not full grown (50+cm) and they dug holes in the sides of muddy banks?
megs27
Oh no worries then thanks for that info Sharn the plants you gave me are doing good and a few of the baby guppies are starting to show so nice yello tails with the top fin blue/yellow so hopefully not to long before they fully colour up I'm feeding them decapsulated srimp eggs and bloodworms and colour bits also threw in a bit of hard boiled egg yoke which went down well is there anything else I could be feeding them to help move their growth on a bit faster??? sharn
Sounds pretty gourmet to me! Lots of waterchanges like your discus and they will be big in no time! Maybe have a look on planet catfish for your plecs L number and see if you can find any breeding accounts on them?
