AquaVitamins
Hello fish dudes Its time for me to upgrade my Aquarium to a cooooooooooler tank. :bounce: I currently have a 60L running in my bedroom. I love it to bits, but the tank is second hand and i have a list of little things that annoy me with its design ( like the lid, pain when cleaning, light needs new bulb, costs more than the fitting Etc) I have my eyes set on an brand new 180L Tank. It comes with heater, light and filter. It a package deal from Juwel at Animates. But i am contemplating what i should do with my current fish because my parents are only letting me have one Aquarium In the 60L: -17 Neons -Kuhli loaches ( Wana keep them ) -3 platys + 10 ish babies I would like to start a cichlid tank Can you give me some suggestions about this ?? Like to know: -How best to go about starting up a Cichlid Aquarium, and what to avoid -Keeping the Kuhlis? and the other fish , Sell them back/trade them @ lps? -Cycling the new tank using the dirty water from the 60L ?? Thanks a heap !!!
Guest
If you want to set up cichlid tank you have to get rid of your current fish as they can't go with cichlids. What I'd do is get the 180ltr one and sell you're fish and all that but put the water from the old tank into the new one and use the old cycled filter media from your filter and put into the new one (it'll reduce the time needed to cycle). AquaVitamins
ohh ok Well i have no idea. I likes the E. Yellows What are the easiest to look after ? Also the most colorful ? I hear that some are aggressive, so what combos would work? Could you post me some of ur tanks so i know what each type look like, African Asian etc
phoenix44
ok - south American tank African tank (well mostly) - I like yellows and dems as they stay smaller
spoon
maybe the kuhlis would be alright with some jewels and lionheads as they dont need high ph but i wouldnt trust them with neons or other small not bottom dwelling fish
David R
ok - south American tank Thats more of a dutch-style planted tank than a south american tank. Japes from MFK has some beautiful looking south american tanks, I can't post pics because they're too big, so check them out here; http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... p?t=230733 Video; Your 180L tank would make a nice little SA style community tank with some wood, a few plants, your neons and kuhliis (even though they aren't south american) and some dwarf cichlids like Apistos, keyholes, flags, rams etc. If you want to keep the platties you could also get a south american leaf fish to keep their babies under control... ;
LYNDYLOO
I have Keyholes, Apisto's, Bolivian Rams, Swordtails, Platties and Neons together and they all get on well. I'm sure if you stuck with the Fish Types I mentioned above you should be fine with keeping the Fish you have Transfer all of your stones if you have any in your 60L Tank, plus all the Water and your exsisting Filter over to your new Tank and you shouldn't need to Cycle it for as long as Cam has said. Guest
We always have bolivian rams in the lfs. I think thy're around $20ea but you don't often get Dwarf cockatoos (give me a pm later and I might have some Dwarf Cockatoos for sale as mine have just bred again and they became free swimming last night). I don't know what a golden dwarf is or a Blue Apsito. Do you mean Apisto Steel Blue? What about Dwarf Cockatoos, Gold Rams, Blue Rams, Apisto Steel Blue And a big school of neons and a school of corys
AquaVitamins
That sound like a plan PMed :bounce:
ryanjury
Cockatoo's are quite common, I have a few fry here at the moment too Unsure what your blue apisto would be there are a few with that name, choose a sc name when you do your next google search. Bolivians are around and usually quite cheap on trademe Golden dwarfs are you referring to Nannacara anomala? Dwarfs are pretty awesome I have just got another few species of apisto I am hoping to breed..
