Aggressive fish?

Hi everyone,

I have a 150L tank, which used to contain the following fish:

3 Neon tetras

2 Clown loaches

3 Zebra Danios

1 Chinese algae eater

1 red-tailed shark

1 Siamese fighter

The fish have all been in the tank together for about 6 months. The problem I have is that 3 of the fish in the last 2 weeks have ‘disappeared’ (2 danios and 1 neon tetra) and just this morning I looked in the tank and the poor Siamese fighter has had all of its tail eaten off! (I have now put the Siamese fighter in isolation until its tail grows back). I suspect it may be the red tailed shark as I have heard these fish can be aggressive.

Any thoughts please?

i doubt it very much! you might want to watch the shark and c if he shows any agression, or any other fish fo rthat matter! then you will most likley have ur culprit, as for the disappearance of fish thinking about it know, i wouldnt keep small fish like neons with a s fighter, so you might find he is responsiblt for there diapearnaces!

Cheers Shae

Chinese algae eaters don't nip fins, they suck bodies. The fish that disappeared will have been eaten.

The Siamese should not have been in with those fish. Most of the faster swimming species find their flowing tails irresistible - even those who don't usually nibble fins.

I know a lot of people keep fighters in community tanks but IMO they should be on their own.

oh never thought a pepered cat could be aggressive i have one and you would think the tetras would be more of an issue than a pepperd cat. Although fighters can attack anything for any reason i had a fighter that had been fine with my tetras for months and then all of a sudden one day i found a dead neon and a blind one and my fighter chasing another one. your peppered cat may have done it out of self defence
