BikBok
i have a piece of presoaked driftwood from a petshop. I am now soaking it in some of my own tank water, is that all I need to do? or do I need to scrub and boil first? How soon can I put it in my newish tank. crazyzoo
I just put in a buckets of water till all the yellow/brown disappeared....then dropped in tank. Will take a while for it to drop pH though.
Ira
I give it a scrub and rinse to get any loose rubbish off then throw it straight in the tank wedged under a rock to hold it down.

If it's pre-sunk you might not even need to anchor it down. And there's no need to soak it until the tannins (the brown/yellow stain in the water) disappears. Some wood will take years to get to that point.
BikBok
Thanks, it's in the tank now and is settled on the bottom. The guppies were quite interested when it first went in. Does driftwood eventaully get eaten up by bristlenoses?
JazzyJeff
Hey there BB! Glad to hear the driftwood is in the tank and the residents have given it the big thumbs up!
whetu
bristlenoses like to have it as part of their diet, but it would take many, many years for a bristlenose to eat up a decent bit of wood.
