LYNDYLOO
One of my Keyhole Chiclids has developed POPEYE I have been to the Petshop today to buy some Furan2 to treat it with, but the guy at the petshop tells me he has never heard of it, bit of a worry I have to say. Is there anything else I can treat it with, I would hate to lose him or her Any help would be very much appreciated
phoenix44
If you are 100% sure its pop eye then treat with furan / Broad spectrum antibiotic for 10 days. filters need the carbon and similar removed, etc. here's a useful link you may like: http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/fish_diseases/eyes.html
LYNDYLOO
From reading that Link, I'm now thinking my Keyhole is suffering from Abdominal Dropsy, have just been and inspected him/her and now it looks like he/she has dropsy with the scales sticking out like Pinecones. I know I need to treat with Furan2 but I cant get hold of any, as I said in the previous post the petshop here doesnt stock it, pretty useless I think, I dont have any other antibiotic I can treat with  It's not looking good for my Keyhole, he is now sitting in the corner of the tank not looking happy. Thinking maybe I need to euthanise him/her really dont want to prolong his pain
ryanjury
Sorry to say but if he has dropsy put him out of his misery, I have tried multiple times with no success using a broad range of drugs to cure dropsy, sometimes you can get the fish to sort of recover but they never last long or go back to normal You need to try and figure out what caused it so that it doesn't happen to any others, remember that the dropsy like appearance can be caused by a broad range of things and can even just be a random thing which you had no control over. Bilbo
As above, dropsy needs clove oil treatment or freezer. Usually pop eye and dropsy is a sign of poor water quality so make sure the water is not causing it before doing a large water change. I know another person in Levin who has major problems like that so maybe your water supply has some issues?
LYNDYLOO
I dont believe it I've just seen my Keyhole that I thought I had lost to Popeye, Took the Tank apart about a week ago looking for Him couldnt find him anywhere, So thought his Body must have been eated by his Tank Mates  His eye looks as though it has burst, but it's actually looking pretty clean, no fungus on the eye, and no sign of any infection. Thought I might try and catch him and pop a drop or two of wonder Tonic on his eye just to be safe, but then again I sort of think if I keep the Water Quality Good then maybe things will be ok with him. Any thoughts would be great
