JarrenB
Hi, I have just got some paradise fish off a HBAS member and have asked him for any tips and he gave me some. I've also done a bit of research on the net but I know from experience that you can’t always trust the internet so does anyone have any tips on this species. Should this post be here or in the Tropical area? As Paradise Fish are sort of both.
A-town...
I have had them in a pond all year round breeding aswell as inside tropical tank. the colours were a lot more vibrant outside however andthe males had more space to do their thing. other than that I wouldnt recoomend putting two males together in a smallish tank else they tend to fight..............a lot
jasus_edwardsii
yeah males fight .They can be very aggressive and territorial. But being such a hardy fish they seldom do each other too much harm except one will be less dominant and spend a lot of time hinding. In there natural habitat in Asia they live in small pools and drains so can tolerate alot of variations in temprature and water quality flucuations.Best to have 1 male and a trio of females.Male makes a bubble nest on tank surface. At this time he becomes aggressive to all other fish anywere near his nest, even the females.Cool to watch him when he has babies ..very good dad picks them up and puts them back in nest. for a fish i find they have personality.i once trained mine to jump out of the water and take flake food from my fingers.hope my ramble helps...
