ryanjury
I am no expert I have only kept discus for short lengths of time before I got sick of the work involved but from reserach and threads on here I found found the following.. You can also use the search function to answer most of your questions Might take a while to weed through all the info but there is alot of good stuff there... search.php?keywords=discus&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search You could get 3 discus and they might even live but I wouldn't put money on them doing very well. Recommended tank size is 40L+ per discus. It is also recommended you keep them in a bare bottom tank to grow them out with large water changes daily or every second day to keep down any waste and avoid stunting them. 3 is also a bad number especially in a smaller tank as one will be bigger and more dominant and probably bash the remaining 2 or at least the larger 2 will gang up on the smaller one meaning it gets less food and hides at the back stressed all day. End of the day it depends how well you want them to do, I have seen plenty of people say oh my discus did well in this tank and I didn't do daily water changes and seen the tiny stunted dull discus they are keeping.. And then I have been out to discusgurus house and seen the stunning dinner plate discus being kept the way discus should be and reaching their full potential. Adrienne
If you want to get small discus you will have to do large daily water changes. When they grow up you will need about 50 litres per discus. 4 discus would be the absolute minimum number imo and in my tank I have 6 as a smaller number didn't work. Bigger discus need less water changes. They do however require a bit more work than guppies to keep them happy and healthy. There is a lot of debate about keeping discus in planted tanks but mine do okay. I water change every 2 - 3 days at about 50% if the tank (200+ litres). The above is pretty much what Ryan has told you.
lmsmith
Just as an aside, your tank is quite new and you've recently struggled with ammonia problems; ignoring the size issue, I'd wait for longer after establishing a tank before putting discus in. jim r
I would not put discus in a tank that small.
Discusguru
Pretty much all good advice given above. Guppy won't like the high temp the discus need . The discus will go after the guppy especially the smaller one. In short, 90 ltrs is too small for keeping discus and if you're getting small discus, I would start with a minimum 6. ron
