land_lubber
Can we get these in NZ? if so has anyone got any for sale?
ryanjury
I am pretty sure they are the same as the normal blue rams we get? Maybe they are bred in Germany and don't kark it as easily as the asian ones or something but doing a quick google search doesn't bring up any differences. Guest
Thats how must healthy blue rams look but sometimes pet shops sell some who don't have any blue in them but I think these are gold X blue rams
phoenix44
yeh, you get them here. just the normal blue rams that die after a while for no apparent reason. I personally think its a marketing ploy. u buy them, get a few good months, and then they die leaving you wanting more and more. cycle never ends  . welcome to my world.
Guest
All my rams that I've brought have lasted atleast a year and I move them around my tank a bit so they can't be that weak.
phoenix44
me likes the sound of your rams  where you get them from? Mine lasted a year, bred like rabbits, and then died one at a time. peacefully at the bottom of my tank, showing no signs of anything, and were as bright as ever
Guest
I get mine from animates in lower Hutt or hutt pets if they show the bright colouring in the shops. I've now got 2 breeding pairs of blue rams (I got a breeding pair today :bounce: ) and 2 male gold balloon rams.
phoenix44
Animates looks like i have some fish to order. Thanks!
Dave+Amy
Hey Cam if you had told me you have two Gold balloon male rams then I would've offered you my female for free since her mate died anyway
ryanjury
Thats how must healthy blue rams look but sometimes pet shops sell some who don't have any blue in them but I think these are gold X blue rams I think this is very unlikely, more than likely they are just poor quality blues or stressed/sick.. Seems there have been some better quality ones coming through lately but it is probably hit and miss..
phoenix44
i agree with ryan. dont think i have ever seen gold X blue... it certainly doesn't come in from an one of animates's suppliers. then again, i havent seen the fish so cannot be certain. Guest
Maybe they're just really bad rams then, the have the faint black patern of a blue ram but no blue on them.
ryanjury
The way I understand it gold is a recessive colour bred out of the blues. So if you crossed a gold and a blue and the blue didn't carry gold genes the you would still get a normal blue but carrying gold genes you wouldn't get a funny in between fish.. That is what I think happens but I haven't seen any proof of the origin of the gold rams or have much knowledge of the genetics involved...
