rox
Hey everyone, we are heading over to New Plymouth from Wangas tomorrow. What are the must do's along the way and the must do's when we get there? Any don't do's? All things touristy considered plus good fish "stops" along the way. :bounce: Will be heading home with precious cargo, we're going is to collect fish purchased from the other site. And can someone back up my order for Summer, this wind is getting beyond a joke. We are off to Kowhai Park tonight for Fish and Chip picnic with family from out of town and I think it will be just a quick eat and run home for shelter, bring on Summer. ta
imsweet
Mokoia pet shop,,, not what it used to be but very nice ppl who own it. Dont think there are any more until you reach NP. Touristy things :: just as you hit normanby, after hawera, turn right accross the railway lines and go about 2-3 min. on the left is Tawhiti museum, VERY worth while stopping in. Have fun
Stray
Tawhiti is definitely worth a visit. Been there three times and learn something new with each visit.
rox
Cool thanks, thats on the to do list for sure, wasnt quite sure where it was but thought it would be well signposted, stuck in my head from the Ads on TV. How long should we allow to have a good viewing? Thanks for the Pet Shop advice Stacey, will do that too.
imsweet
i'd say allow at least an hour. It's forever growing but extremly worth while. Think the only sign post from the main rd is one of those yellow aa ones, but it's Ohangai Rd. If you go past the caravan place you've gone too far. rox
Will do, you have fun on your trip away too. How r you getting on with your laptop?
supasi
Easier way to find it is to turn right at the Shell in Hawera. Keep going through town and past meat works.Tawhiti Museum is about 50m to the right from Tawhiti road intersection, (stop sign). Well worth the trip. Then when heading north, just follow Tawhiti road to Normanby
rox
Great one, thanks Simon, we are sure not to miss. So what of New Plymouth itself what shall we see, the Windwand for sure. And is Critters the only Pet shop in town?
supasi
The street by Shell station is called princess street. Correction from my last post...... Follow Ohangai road, not tawhiti road, Tawhiti road continues on from Princess Street.
supasi
If the weater is good, and sea is calm. Then a must is Chaddies Charters. Its down in the harbour towards the breakwater. Boat ride in an old english Rescue boat hat is launched down a slipway.Goes out around sugarloafs and if your keen you can throw a lure off the back an catch Kahwai. http://www.windwand.co.nz/chaddiescharters/
