dragonz1833
hi im wondering how big does a rainbow lorikeet cage have to be? and also does anyone have any lorkeets for sale ???
phoenix44
big. a lori cage must be at least 3ft high if not more; 2 ft deep. bigger is better. and you must let it out all the time and socialise it more than you would your child, lol. if not all you will have is an upset, loud and unpleasant bird around the house. toys should ideally be shuffled around especially if you are not there during the day, and you should get mentally stimulating toys. mirrors are a big no no with any bird. hope that helps yuna. Shannon
yep like pheonix said the bigger the cage the better. They are very social guys love company and attention. They are fairly easy to tame and train they love having a shower under your kitchen tap great little birds. Though I have found people feed them the wrong food they have a specific diet and can get a very upset stomach if not feed correctly. Theres usually plenty of lorries for sale on tm. Mel
Bigger the better, they love playing on the ground with foot toys and are very active birds. My Lorie has a HUGE two storied cage my husband made rougly 1.5 metres wide x 1 metre depth x 1.5 metres high
phoenix44
yeah.. and the food... v v important to give the appropriate diet. wet mix leads to liquid poos. dry mix is more controllable for potty training. use ornithon as a daily supplement and you can mix it in the food with no probs. worm them when you first get the baby - you just mix the liquid in their water. the wet mix should be mixed up everyday (fresh). butmost importantly - Always give them plenty of fresh fruit and veges. lots of peaches, apricots, cherries, strawberries, corn, peas, spinach etc... NEVER EVER feed Avocados - leads to death overnight in many animals, most birds included. chocolate, coffee, tea etc are loved by these birds, but should not be given strictly speaking. but the occasional sniff will not kill them - it is not good for them at all though. :bounce:

Blue Moon
who, my boy? nope, we have someone home here all the time and he sits out with the galahs. He plays in there alot though as we change his toys every 3 days, we just leave the door open.
phoenix44
oh that's good then. lol Glad to see that there still are people out there that understand that birds like all animals need space etc... (youll be surprised how many sad and shocked looks i get when i refuse to sell a small cage to someone who wants one for a bird).
Blue Moon
yea, I agree I just feel so bad when you look on TM at all the Lori's in these tiny budgy cages....There was one on there awhile ago in a canary size cage and it has plucked itself to peices!!! I was so tempted to add it 2 my flock but it was 2 far away. My boy uses his cage as his play area and sleep/food area(he sleeps in a hood that I cut off one of my old jumpers lol) He hardly ever leaves it, he is either ontop or on the curtain rails or the window tapping away trying to rattle his brain lol.
