seahorsecrazy
I have been told that you can buy a bumble bee hive in a matchbox-type set up for the avid gardener. I have had no luck trying to source one. Any suggestions. Personally allergic to bees so finding a wild hive is not an option. This is a gift for a friend of mine who wants them for his garden. alanmin4304
What do bumble bees do that honey bees don't? Red clover rings a bell

John Rimbauer
I've seen the "hive-in-a-box" things being used in glasshouses to pollinate tomatoes - years ago though. My understanding is that they put a new queen in each box with enough pollen etc. to get her going. I believe the hives only last one season naturally, though the boxes may be different. Perhaps you could have a chat to some commercial growers or growing supplies places?
