henward Posted December 9, 2008 Report Share Posted December 9, 2008 Before i had a brownish algae , this is now almost if not completely gone now i have a green algae. Not too much yet,but its on some parts of the wood. its not furry, its slimy and its on some leaves too. and some of the ornaments hiing places surface in the tank. The algae has tiny ,really tiny airbubbles UNDER the ayer of algae, sometimes the fish brush past it and it come sout ut its under the algae what is this? do i have too much light? light too long? davidb Posted December 9, 2008 Report Share Posted December 9, 2008 sounds like blue-green algae. You could use erothomycin (sp?) to get rid of it, it is a pescription antibiotic. Otherwise try feeding more sensibly/water changing more, as you prob have excessive phosphates in the water. Is the tank newish? because it is a bit of a phase the tank goes through, and if the tank is newish, it should go away on its own if you keep up water changes. henward Posted December 9, 2008 Author Report Share Posted December 9, 2008 sweet jesus~! i just changed the water - did a major vac of the gravel WOW WOW WOW!!!! its unbelievable the gravel was so dirty, i think i do indeed feed too much lol alot of poo stuck especially around the plants. i figured a method to suck them up took me 45 mins to really clean the gravel - but it was clean! did a massive water change in the process. The long-term solution is to keep up with your tank maintenance on a regular basis, rather than waiting for it to get established. Just do regular gravel vacs, regular water changes and be careful to not over-feed.
